Shot peeningShot peening, a blasting method to DIN 8200, is a proven and established technique of surface preparation, using small steel balls that are shot on to the treated surface at high speed (approx. 300 km/h) by means of an electrically-driven blast wheel. The collision energy of the balls induces a hardening and elasto-plastic deformation of the surface. The shot is collected in a reservoir over a rebound channel whereas the lighter material, which has come off, is sucked into a collector.
This procedure allows the treating of all dry, grease-free, yet exclusively horizontal surfaces. The shot peening facility is used for preparing surfaces that do not allow UHP waterjetting.
